Daimler to double production in China: The German carmaker plans to invest a total of four billion euros (5.5bn dollars) in its Chinese joint venture Beijing Benz (BBAC) with one billion being reserved for the expansion of local car and engine production alone until 2015.

BMW strengthened the China-German relations too when signing a declaration of intent with its Chinese partner Brilliance Automotive to continue and deepen the cooperation. Last year, the BMW-Brilliance JV sold 206,729 BMW vehicles, an increase of 28.5%.

405,000 EVs worldwide: According to the German research centre ZSW, the number of electric vehicles, including range extended EVs and plug-in hybrids, has doubled since last year. Leading EV nation is the U.S. with 174,000 vehicles followed by Japan with 68,000 and China with 45,000. Germany only took seventh place with 17,500 electric cars counted.
