Chronopost expands electric van fleet in France

The French parcel service Chronopost continues to expand its electric vehicle fleet. The DPD subsidiary now ordered a total of 400 electric transporters from Voltia, that already delivered 320. The converted Nissan EVs will be used in eleven French cities.

The latest order builds on initial order from Chronopost for 100 Nissan e-NV200 electric vans which Voltia adapted to the logistics company’s requirement. The Voltia version offers double the loading capacity of eight cubic metres and added back-door access. The load capacity is set at 600 kg by the manufacturer, who is based in Bratislava. Under the hood, the Nissan e-NV200 vans remain unchanged with a motor of 109 kW coupled with a 40 kWh battery offering 200 kilometres of range in the WLTP cycle.

The new 400 e-van strong fleet will initially be used in Paris, but will also deliver parcels to clients in Strasbourg, Lille, Rouen, Nantes, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Montpellier, Lyon, Marseille and Nice from July 2020.

In Paris, the fleet is now 100% zero-emission, and Chronopost says it delivers around 25,000 parcels a day in 230 tours throughout the French capital. It includes 190 electric vehicles (utility vehicles, cargo bikes and trolleys) and 40 NGV vehicles.

Chronopost is a subsidiary of DPD Group that belongs to la Poste Group. It is the group’s “spearhead of clean delivery” and aims for 20 and 25% of its parcel deliveries being made by a fleet of 1,200 to 1,500 clean vehicles from 2022.
