The Chinese battery manufacturer Farasis Energy is planning another production facility. The new factory in Ganzhou, Jiangxi province, will have a final annual capacity of 30 GWh and will be built in two phases.

According to a memorandum of understanding signed by the company and the Ganzhou Economic & Technological Development Zone administration, the first phase will build NCM pouch cell production facilities with an annual production capacity of 18 GWh. The remaining 12 GWh are planned for the second phase, although the type of cells to be produced after the expansion has not yet been determined and will depend on the market situation, Farasis said, according to Chinese media.

A timetable for the new factory in Ganzhou (not to be confused with Guangzhou) or the amount of the investment are not yet known, but the further procedure agreed in the letter of intent is: As soon as the official investment cooperation agreement is signed, Farasis Energy has 30 days to establish a project company that will manage the construction work in the Ganzhou Economic & Technological Development Zone as a legal entity.

Farasis already has 5 GWh of battery production in Ganzhou, according to previous information. The company’s larger plant in China, with 16 GWh of production capacity, is located in Zhenjiang, and there are also plans for a 16 GWh cell factory in Turkey. In May, it was announced that Geely and Farasis had begun construction of a new 30 GWh factory in China in the city of Chongqing as part of their battery joint venture. Plans for the German factory in Bitterfeld-Wolfen are currently on hold.
