According to media reports, the GV70 has not been produced at the Alabama plant since June. The production stop of the GV70 in Alabama is said to be due to low sales figures for the model and the expiry of the tax credit in the US at the end of September. There is talk of sluggish monthly US sales. This is somewhat surprising, given that Genesis announced a revised version at the LA Auto Show en noviembre de 2024, featuring a larger battery, among other things.

Producción en Hyundai Motor’s US plant in Alabama (HMMA) had only started in February 2023. At the time, it was the first electric model to be built in the entire Hyundai Group in the US, so the GV70 had a certain symbolic significance. With only 2.5 years of production at the plant, the model is unlikely to have been profitable.

However, the model is still available in the US, but only as long as the stock lasts. As only 15 units were sold in July, the GV70 could still be available as a new car for some time, even without active production.

However, the Genesis GV70 chapter is not yet completely closed on the US market. According to Corea del Sur, the company has begun exploring various options, including relocating the production line to its new US plant, which is operating at low capacity, or manufacturing and exporting from domestic factories.

However, there is no future for another Genesis model: the G80 Electrified electric saloon will no longer be sold. After the model was initially removed from the US website without notice, the company has now confirmed to InsideEVs that the car will no longer be offered for the 2025 model year. Genesis is keeping its options open for a return with a later model year, but given the small segment of large electric saloons, this is rather unlikely.
