Skoda secures order for 75 trolleybuses in Sofia
Four years ago, the Czech company delivered 30 Skoda 27Tr low-floor trolleybuses to the Bulgarian capital. While the order at that time had a volume of €20 million euros, the total value of the tenders now won amounts to €56.19 million euros.
The first order comprises the delivery of 35 Skoda 32Tr low-floor trolleybuses. The twelve-metre-long electric bus can carry up to 95 passengers, 35 of them seated. An unspecified traction battery will enable operation even in areas without overhead lines. The vehicle can travel up to twelve kilometres on a single charge.
The second order is larger, however, and involves the delivery of 40 Skoda 27Tr articulated buses. This 18-metre-long model can carry up to 167 passengers (42 seated). The Skoda Group has not provided any information on the size of the traction battery installed in this model either. All that is clear is that it should enable a range of up to 15 kilometres in areas without overhead lines.
The two orders not only specify different models, but also differ in terms of delivery times. While the 12-metre trolleybuses are to be delivered within 12 months, the 18-metre models are to arrive in the Bulgarian capital Sofia within 15 months. Furthermore, the delivery times only apply from the date on which the contracts come into force. Both contracts are to come into force as soon as funding from the EU has been confirmed.
