BP Pulse opens EV charging hub at Chicago Airport

BP Pulse, the EV charging wing of BP, opened its sixth major airport charging hub of 2025 last month. The new charging site is located near Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and features 40 ultrafast charging bays.

Describing the new hub as one of the largest in Illinois, BP Pulse states it is located three miles from the airport and has capacity for up to 40 vehicles at once. The charging bays feature a mixture of 400 kW and 150 kW DC fast chargers with both CCS and NACS connectors, although BP hasn’t confirmed whether each bay features its own individual charging tower or if the power capacity is shared between two bays at once.

In line with similar BP hubs at other US airports, the Chicago O’Hare hub features a covered canopy, free Wi-Fi, and is located next to a BP-branded petrol station. The company says this is to allow drivers to access amenities such as a coffee shops, convenience stores, and restaurants while their vehicles charge.

The hub was part-funded by a $500,000 USD rebate from ComEd via its Make Ready Rebate program, as well as a $320,000 grant from the Illinois EPA’s Driving A Cleaner Illinois Program which funds public Level 2 or 3 charging stations.

Sujay Sharma, CEO of BP Pulse Americas, said: “Opening our sixth major airport hub is a significant milestone in our commitment to expanding our EV charging network across the United States. By strategically placing our hubs in high-demand locations like airports, we’re making it easier for drivers to access the fast and reliable charging they need. Locating this hub next to a bp retail site also means EV drivers can benefit from the convenient amenities already offered to customers today.”
