Las bater\u00edas para el XC40 Recharge P8 empezar\u00e1n a rodar por las l\u00edneas de montaje de la planta de Gante a partir de marzo, mientras que la producci\u00f3n del primer Volvo el\u00e9ctrico tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1 prevista que empiece en Gante en oto\u00f1o.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>En la planta de ensamblaje de bater\u00edas reci\u00e9n inaugurada, Volvo producir\u00e1 los paquetes de bater\u00edas para el <a href=\"https:\/\/www.electrive.com\/es\/2019\/10\/16\/recarga-del-volvo-xc40-el-primer-coche-totalmente-electrico-de-volvo-se-espera-para-2020\/\">XC40 totalmente el\u00e9ctrico<\/a> junto con el propio veh\u00edculo. El XC40 con motor de combusti\u00f3n interna se fabrica en Gante desde 2018, ahora tambi\u00e9n la versi\u00f3n PHEV. Todos los veh\u00edculos -incluido el futuro BEV- se ensamblar\u00e1n en la misma l\u00ednea que el XC40 sigue compartiendo con el V60. El objetivo de la empresa sueca es evitar la sobreproducci\u00f3n. \"Estamos conduciendo a la vista\", dice Stefan Fesser, director de la planta de Gante. \"Queremos ser capaces de satisfacer la demanda entrante de los clientes, pero no queremos acumular un exceso de capacidad\".<\/p>\n<p>Lo que queda es una simple extrapolaci\u00f3n: Seg\u00fan los planes de Volvo, el 50% de los coches nuevos que se vendan en 2025 ser\u00e1n coches el\u00e9ctricos de bater\u00eda. Dado que el a\u00f1o pasado se construyeron en Gante 185.000 XC40, podr\u00edamos suponer que en un futuro no muy lejano podr\u00edan necesitarse unos 90.000 XC40 totalmente el\u00e9ctricos, para los que Volvo tambi\u00e9n tendr\u00eda que instalar 90.000 bater\u00edas. Volvo buys these pre-assembled in modules from LG Chem (from the factory in Poland) and from CATL. &#8220;With LG Chem we have only one cell supplier for the PHEV, but with LG and CATL we have two for the BEV,&#8221; says Bruyneel. &#8220;We have long-term supply contracts with both of them.&#8221; Asked about the delivery problems at Audi and Jaguar, he simply adds: &#8220;We will get the batteries we need.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bruyneel can perhaps feel confident that while the competition already needs larger quantities of battery cells to build their series-produced electric cars, Volvo will only slowly start battery assembly in Ghent next week. During the summer holidays, the production facilities in the vehicle plant will be converted for the manufacture of the XC40 Recharge, and the first electric cars are to be built from autumn onwards. Until then, a temporary shortage of cells will be less of a problem \u2013 and LG Chem should be able to keep production in Wroclaw running smoothly by the autumn.<\/p>\n<h3>Volvo takes aim for a &#8220;challenging&#8221; ramp-up phase<\/h3>\n<p>Since the XC40 is already being built in Ghent (as a PHEV already with electrified drive), the Global Head of Production is planning a rapid production ramp-up for the electric model in the fall. &#8220;The plant is prepared for this,&#8221; says Bruyneel. &#8220;In the ramp-up phase, which we have planned in a very challenging way, we have to look at the capacities in our supply chain rather than our own&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the equipment, Volvo also had to prepare their employees for this expansion. According to Fesser, last year 200 new people were hired for the company&#8217;s electrification effort. A total of 6,500 people work for Volvo in Ghent, making the plant the largest industrial employer in Flanders. But the training courses were not only about the employees in battery assembly. &#8220;Because we manufacture combustion engines, PHEVs and soon the BEV on a single line, a lot of employees throughout the car&#8217;s production come into contact with the electrified models and naturally need to be trained for this,&#8221; says Fesser.<\/p>\n<p>But even before the first XC40 Recharge has left the production line in series trim, there are already rumours of a spin-off. With reference to US dealers, media reports indicate that Volvo is planning a coup\u00e9 version of the fully electric XC40 Recharge P8 with the C40.
