Seg\u00fan <em>Reuters<\/em>, las nuevas bater\u00edas prometen un mill\u00f3n de kil\u00f3metros de uso a un coste tan bajo que situar\u00eda el precio del veh\u00edculo el\u00e9ctrico al mismo nivel que el de los veh\u00edculos con motor de combusti\u00f3n interna, un hito al que la industria aspira desde hace tiempo. Los analistas esperan que \u00e9ste sea el punto de inflexi\u00f3n en el precio a partir del cual la adopci\u00f3n masiva de los veh\u00edculos el\u00e9ctricos sea inevitable. A <em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.electrive.com\/es\/2019\/09\/09\/las-baterias-id-3-cuestan-a-vw-menos-de-100-por-kilovatio-hora\/\">informe<\/a> en septiembre de 2019 sugiri\u00f3 que Volkswagen ya lo hab\u00eda logrado con su coche el\u00e9ctrico ID.3.<\/p>\n<p>En cuanto a Tesla, estas maravillosas c\u00e9lulas fueron desarrolladas al parecer junto con CATL y expertos an\u00f3nimos. Lo m\u00e1s probable es que se trate del equipo en torno a Jeff Dahn, que ha estado trabajando en <a href=\"https:\/\/www.electrive.com\/es\/2020\/02\/27\/pueden-costar-las-baterias-de-tesla-menos-de-100-dolares-por-kwh\/\">proyecto Correcaminos<\/a> desde hace alg\u00fan tiempo, s\u00f3lo la participaci\u00f3n de CATL es nueva. Sin embargo, tiene sentido, ya que CATL cuenta con la capacidad de fabricaci\u00f3n de c\u00e9lulas de bater\u00eda. Tambi\u00e9n dijo que \"actualmente, ambas partes est\u00e1n explorando juntas c\u00f3mo mejorar las bater\u00edas\".<\/p>\n<p>Se dice que la bater\u00eda 100$\/kWh o del mill\u00f3n de millas se basa en la qu\u00edmica NMC con poco cobalto. Aunque al parecer las primeras versiones est\u00e1n destinadas a los Teslas fabricados en China, no est\u00e1 claro qu\u00e9 modelos se beneficiar\u00edan de las nuevas celdas. <em>Reuters<\/em> Las fuentes afirman que, con el tiempo, se introducir\u00e1n versiones mejoradas de la bater\u00eda, con mayor densidad energ\u00e9tica y capacidad de almacenamiento e incluso menor coste, en otros veh\u00edculos de otros mercados, incluido el norteamericano. Advances are said to rely on a cell-to-pack method developed by CATL, that eliminates the step of bundling cells. Tesla is expected to use the technology to help reduce battery weight, and cost says <em>Reuters<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Plans also include highly automated battery manufacturing processes to reduce labour costs and increase production. Tesla is now speaking of &#8220;terrafactories&#8221; about 30 times larger than Gigafactory 1 in Nevada, says the news agency. It is indeed expected that Tesla is planning to set up its battery production, as mentioned above. Besides, the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.electrive.com\/2020\/05\/05\/tesla-is-ordering-battery-manufacturing-equipment\/\">recently ordered<\/a> battery making equipment. However, nothing has been confirmed on the scale of any such cell factory. Still, Tesla boss Elon Musk set the tone with investors in January saying: &#8220;We&#8217;ve got to really make sure we get a very steep ramp in battery production and continue to improve the cost per kilowatt-hour of the batteries \u2014 this is very fundamental and extremely difficult.&#8221; He added: &#8220;We&#8217;ve got to scale battery production to crazy levels that people cannot even fathom today.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In further news from <em>Reuters<\/em>, Tesla also plans to become an energy supplier relying on its global fleet of more than 1 million electric vehicles that are capable of connecting to and sharing power with the grid. According to the sources, Tesla&#8217;s goal is to achieve the status of a power company. It would not be too surprising &#8211; the transition to sustainable energy is a goal that has been part of the revised company mission since Tesla added SolarCity to its business in 2017.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update 17 May 2020<\/strong>: Elon Musk just postponed the Tesla Battery Day initially envisioned to happen later this May. On Twitter he blames the delay less on the company not being ready but on low attendance of live events at the present moment. Says Musk: &#8220;We\u2019re going to have to push out the date or attendance will be very low.
