Para garantizar el suministro de materias primas como el litio o las tierras raras en Europa, la Comisi\u00f3n Europea ha lanzado hoy la Alianza Europea de Materias Primas. La ERMA incluye ya a 150 empresas, as\u00ed como a organizaciones no gubernamentales, asociaciones y gobiernos.<\/p>\n
Participar es garantizar un suministro seguro y sostenible de materias primas en la UE, con la vista puesta principalmente en los veh\u00edculos el\u00e9ctricos y el almacenamiento de energ\u00eda, que la Alianza Europea de Materias Primas (ERMA) identifica como una \"necesidad m\u00e1s acuciante\" en una primera fase. La Comisi\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n considera cr\u00edtica la demanda de materiales de tierras raras para productos como las turbinas e\u00f3licas, que podr\u00edan multiplicarse por diez de aqu\u00ed a 2050. Naturalmente, la nueva Alianza forma parte del Pacto Verde de la UE.<\/p>\n
Maro\u0161 \u0160ef\u010dovi\u010d, Vicepresidente de la Comisi\u00f3n Europea, subray\u00f3 a\u00fan m\u00e1s la conexi\u00f3n directa con el suministro de pilas en su discurso en Bruselas, diciendo: \"Para garantizar un suministro sostenible de materias primas necesitamos aunar fuerzas en toda Europa, como hemos hecho con la Alianza Europea sobre Bater\u00edas. La Alianza Europea sobre Materias Primas movilizar\u00e1 a los agentes de la industria y la innovaci\u00f3n, los Estados miembros, las regiones, el BEI, los inversores y la sociedad civil, para ayudar a desarrollar nuestras capacidades y casos de inversi\u00f3n a lo largo de toda la cadena de valor, desde la extracci\u00f3n hasta la transformaci\u00f3n y el reciclado.\"<\/p>\n
El Alianza Europea de Bater\u00edas<\/a> se hab\u00eda planteado como un concepto similar al de Airbus ya en 2017. Un a\u00f1o despu\u00e9s, el enfoque se agudiz\u00f3 en forma de un plan de acci\u00f3n que preve\u00eda una \"bater\u00eda verde\" que cumplir\u00eda las normas europeas dise\u00f1adas para diferenciarse de la competencia, principalmente asi\u00e1tica-oriental. \u00c9stas podr\u00edan incluir tambi\u00e9n el reciclaje y escenarios de segunda vida para las pilas, as\u00ed como un abastecimiento y etiquetado responsables. Also to date, funding of battery advance in Europe has reached \u20ac25 billion, twice as much as in China. The Commission thus considers Europe “well on track to become the second manufacturer of the lithium-ion battery cell by 2024, overtaking the US and the rest of Asia”. The EC also claims that thanks to the EBA, Europe is moving from covering 3% to 80% of battery-related needs for lithium by 2025.<\/p>\n Of course, the EC is aware that “we are almost exclusively dependent on China,” at the moment, “despite interesting deposits in Europe (in France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Sweden or in Greenland and Norway) as well as despite huge recycling and re-use potential,” said the Vice President.<\/p>\n Apart from the recycling, there is also the upcoming Battery Regulation proposal, that will address responsible and sustainable sourcing of raw materials for batteries. This could, in fact, become one of the stronger points in which to distinguish battery making in the European Union from other markets, foremost in Asia.<\/p>\n For the ERMA, membership is open and already show a strong following. Current members unite various European initiatives such as the Critical Raw Materials Alliance or the ECGA – European Carbon and Graphite Association and also the French Ministry for Economy and Finance. For intermediate products, you find Saft, Albemarle, Elkem of Norway, or Neo Performance Minerals from Canada as well as some UK companies. The most prominent members are those using the final product such as ABB, Fiat Chrysler, Epiroc, Nidec-PSA, Renault, Siemens, Rimac Automobili, or Valeo.
