Con la planta, que ser\u00e1 escalable a mayores capacidades, Volkswagen quiere recuperar valiosas materias primas y utilizarlas en nuevas bater\u00edas.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan VWGC, con el inicio de la operaci\u00f3n piloto, el grupo da \"otro paso comprometido hacia la responsabilidad sostenible de principio a fin de toda la cadena de valor de la bater\u00eda del veh\u00edculo el\u00e9ctrico\". A pesar de la redacci\u00f3n gen\u00e9rica de las relaciones p\u00fablicas, la empresa tambi\u00e9n aport\u00f3 datos concretos sobre sus planes: se recuperan materias primas valiosas como el litio, el n\u00edquel, el manganeso y el cobalto en un ciclo cerrado con una \"tasa de reciclaje de m\u00e1s del 90% en el futuro\". Tambi\u00e9n se reciclar\u00e1n el aluminio, el cobre y los pl\u00e1sticos.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan VW, la planta piloto est\u00e1 dise\u00f1ada actualmente para una capacidad de 3.600 sistemas de bater\u00edas al a\u00f1o (o unas 1.500 toneladas) porque a\u00fan no hay suficientes bater\u00edas que merezcan ser recicladas. S\u00f3lo se reciclan all\u00ed las bater\u00edas que ya no son aptas para aplicaciones de segunda vida: VWGC menciona aqu\u00ed, por ejemplo, sus columnas flexibles de carga r\u00e1pida o los robots de carga m\u00f3vil. \"No se esperan mayores vol\u00famenes de devoluci\u00f3n de bater\u00edas hasta finales de la d\u00e9cada de 2020 como muy pronto\", afirma Volkswagen en el comunicado. Por ello, han dise\u00f1ado la planta para que pueda \"escalarse para manejar mayores cantidades a medida que el proceso se optimiza de forma consistente\".<\/p>\n  <div class=\"module-gallery <\/div>\n  \n<p>\"S\u00f3lo a medio o largo plazo empezaremos a reincorporar los materiales a la fabricaci\u00f3n de nuevos productos\", declar\u00f3 Thomas Schmall, miembro del Consejo Ejecutivo del Grupo y responsable de VWGC, en un acto en l\u00ednea con motivo de la inauguraci\u00f3n de la planta piloto. \"Aun as\u00ed, es importante que nos ocupemos de estos temas con antelaci\u00f3n. Si no hubi\u00e9ramos invertido en la producci\u00f3n de m\u00e1quinas el\u00e9ctricas en Kassel hace diez a\u00f1os, hoy no podr\u00edamos fabricar motores el\u00e9ctricos para la MEB en esta medida y con esta calidad.\"<\/p>\n<p>Las bater\u00edas que se reciclar\u00e1n en la puesta en marcha de la planta costar\u00e1n unos seis millones de euros y proceder\u00e1n del grupo. \"Llevamos un a\u00f1o y medio hablando con todas las marcas del Grupo y hemos recogido y almacenado las bater\u00edas de sus veh\u00edculos de prueba y de preproducci\u00f3n\", dijo Schmall. \"Tambi\u00e9n estamos reciclando c\u00e9lulas prototipo de nuestra producci\u00f3n de c\u00e9lulas piloto en Salzgitter. Esto nos permitir\u00e1 utilizar bien la planta este a\u00f1o\".<\/p>\n<p>VWGC no cubre todos los pasos en la propia planta de Salzgitter; empresas asociadas llevan a cabo algunos procesos. Tras la inspecci\u00f3n de entrada para el uso de segunda vida, las bater\u00edas se descargan en profundidad y se desmontan. A continuaci\u00f3n, las piezas individuales se muelen en granulado y se funden en un proceso que no consume mucha energ\u00eda. El aluminio, el cobre, los pl\u00e1sticos y el \"polvo negro\" pueden recuperarse entonces del granulado seco (para recuperar el electrolito). During the presentation, VW also mentions the individual quantities of the materials used. The 62-kWh battery of the MEB (total weight 400 kilograms) contains around 126 kilograms of aluminium (mainly in the housing), 71 kilograms of graphite and 22 kilograms of copper. In future, we intend to support our battery cell production with the material we recover. Given that the demand for batteries and the related raw materials will increase drastically, we can put every gram of recycled material to good use.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>1.3 tonnes less CO2 with recycled material<\/h3>\n<p>But not all materials can yet be used directly in new batteries. The recovered graphite is not of the quality needed for new batteries, VW says. And components like the dried electrolyte cannot be reused as an electrolyte, but for other chemical industry uses.<\/p>\n<p>For a 62 kWh battery (marketed in the ID.3 with its net 58 kWh), Volkswagen Group Components puts the CO2 saving at around 1.3 tonnes if the cathodes are made from recycled material and with green electricity.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to its plant, the company is also looking into cooperation with other recycling companies, M\u00f6ller said. &#8220;We don&#8217;t intend to recycle every single battery in the world ourselves.
