Para ello, la empresa automovil\u00edstica ha concluido un acuerdo de desarrollo con el especialista en bater\u00edas de metal de litio SolidEnergy Systems.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>GM caracteriza la pr\u00f3xima generaci\u00f3n de Ultium como una \"bater\u00eda de metal de litio con \u00e1nodo protegido\" que ofrece \"una combinaci\u00f3n de asequibilidad, alto rendimiento y densidad energ\u00e9tica\". Para ello, el grupo afirma que cuenta con conocimientos de desarrollo y numerosas series de datos: Se dice que las primeras c\u00e9lulas prototipo ya han recorrido 150.000 kil\u00f3metros de pruebas simuladas en el laboratorio de investigaci\u00f3n y desarrollo del Centro T\u00e9cnico Global de GM en Warren, Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>Para acelerar la comercializaci\u00f3n de las bater\u00edas de litio metal, GM trabaja ahora con SolidEnergy Systems, una empresa derivada del Instituto Tecnol\u00f3gico de Massachusetts (MIT) con sede en Singapur. Now GM and SES are planning to build a prototype production line for the cells in Woburn in the US state of Massachusetts by 2023. By the middle of the decade, the two partners aim to reduce costs by up to 60 per cent &#8211; compared to the cells used in the current Chevrolet Bolt and Bolt EUV.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Affordability and range are two major barriers to mass EV adoption,&#8221; GM President Mark Reuss said at a virtual conference. &#8220;With this next-generation Ultium chemistry, we believe we\u2019re on the cusp of a once-in-a-generation improvement in energy density and cost. There\u2019s even more room to improve in both categories, and we intend to innovate faster than any other company in this space.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For the current generation of Ultium cells, GM is known to be working with LG Energy Systems. As part of their joint venture Ultium Cells, GM and LG are already building a battery cell plant in Ohio, which is expected to be completed in 2022. At the beginning of March, GM also confirmed reports that it was planning a second battery cell plant in the USA. Just today, LG is also mentioning some key points.<\/p>\n<p>Whether LGES is involved in the development of the new lithium metal batteries is not mentioned in GM&#8217;s statement. Reuss also did not give any details in the interview.
