La decisi\u00f3n preliminar se tom\u00f3 en el pen\u00faltimo tramo, en el desierto de Arabia Saud\u00ed, donde se celebra el Rally Dakar desde hace varios a\u00f1os: El rival m\u00e1s cercano de Sainz\/Cruz, el m\u00faltiple campe\u00f3n del mundo de rallies S\u00e9bastien Loeb en un BRX Hunter de propulsi\u00f3n convencional, perdi\u00f3 mucho tiempo debido a da\u00f1os en la suspensi\u00f3n. El Audi de Sainz y Cruz se libr\u00f3 de tales desperfectos, raz\u00f3n por la que al final pudieron ganar por un margen tan amplio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Su coche es el Audi RS Q e-tron, que se present\u00f3 por primera vez <a href=\"https:\/\/www.electrive.com\/es\/2021\/07\/25\/audi-sport-presenta-el-coche-de-carreras-hibrido-rs-q-e-tron-para-dakar\/\">en 2021<\/a>. La tracci\u00f3n a las cuatro ruedas del prototipo del Dakar es puramente el\u00e9ctrica y utiliza motores el\u00e9ctricos avanzados de los anteriores coches de carreras de F\u00f3rmula E de Audi. Sin embargo, el RS Q e-tron es un coche de carreras h\u00edbrido: aunque los motores el\u00e9ctricos reciben energ\u00eda de una bater\u00eda de alto voltaje, el contenido energ\u00e9tico de las bater\u00edas no es suficiente para las largas y r\u00e1pidas etapas des\u00e9rticas de la carrera del Dakar. Como el motor de combusti\u00f3n, conocido como \"convertidor de energ\u00eda\", funciona con \"reFuel a base de combustible residual\", se ahorrar\u00e1 un 60% de las emisiones de CO2 en el tren motriz \u00fanico. En a\u00f1os anteriores, numerosos problemas hab\u00edan ralentizado los prototipos de la empresa de Ingolstadt o los hab\u00edan sacado completamente de la carrera. No se trataba exclusivamente de problemas con la complej\u00edsima unidad motriz, sino tambi\u00e9n con otros aspectos como el chasis.
