{"id":250498,"date":"2024-09-13T12:30:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-13T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.electrive.com\/?p=250498"},"modified":"2024-09-16T12:07:16","modified_gmt":"2024-09-16T10:07:16","slug":"ee-uu-resuelve-los-aranceles-a-la-importacion-de-vehiculos-electricos-chinos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.electrive.com\/es\/2024\/09\/13\/usa-settles-on-import-tariffs-for-chinese-electric-vehicles\/","title":{"rendered":"EE.UU. llega a un acuerdo sobre los aranceles a la importaci\u00f3n de veh\u00edculos el\u00e9ctricos chinos"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph \">In a rather tight vote, which was decided 217 to 192, a bill was approved &#8220;to tighten the definition of Chinese components that make vehicles ineligible for U.S. EV tax credits.&#8221; A response from the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, which represents major OEMs such as General Motors and Toyota, has already complained, saying that the bill would &#8220;result in fewer vehicles qualifying and would mean aggressive rules on vehicle emissions and EV targets would need to be rolled back.&#8221; However, Group CEO John Bozzella also acknowledged that the protectionist measures would benefit the local EV environment: &#8220;[&#8230;]the automotive industrial base faces a serious economic and national security risk from China, the U.S. becomes less competitive, and the rug is pulled out from consumers.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph \">Incidentally, the bill was introduced by Ohio congresswoman Carol Miller, whose state is home to a growing e-mobility industry, from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.electrive.com\/2024\/09\/13\/forsee-power-inaugurates-factory-in-ohio\/\">French company Forsee Power<\/a> recently opening a new factory to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.electrive.com\/2024\/04\/15\/honda-is-ahead-of-schedule-for-its-ohio-ev-production-hub\/\">Honda&#8217;s planned EV production hub<\/a> in the state, Ohio is set to benefit significantly from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.electrive.com\/2024\/08\/16\/us-doe-announces-50-million-dollar-grants-for-six-states\/\">Biden administrations green investment plans<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph \">Meanwhile, the White House has settled on its tariff hikes for Chinese imports, which will include a 100% duty on Chinese EVs, 50% on solar cells and 25% on steel, aluminium, EV batteries and key minerals. The new tariff is to go into effect on the 27th of September. A 25 % tariff will also go into effect for the batteries for other devices, including laptops and cell phones in January 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"ad-space\" >\n      <div class=\"ad-space-block\">\n      <div class=\"adspace not-mobile rectangle-4\" id=\"article-content-1\"><\/div>\n      <div class=\"adspace not-desktop topmobile-2\" id=\"article-content-1-mobile\"><\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph \">&#8220;The 100% tariff on electric vehicles here does reflect the very significant unfair cost advantage that Chinese electric vehicles in particular are using to dominate car markets at a breathtaking pace in other parts of the world,&#8221; Lael Brainard, the top White House economic adviser said in an interview with <em>Reuters<\/em>. &#8220;That&#8217;s not going to take place here under the vice president&#8217;s and the president&#8217;s leadership.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph \">China had previously decried the tariffs as &#8220;bullying,&#8221; but has also started taking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.electrive.com\/2024\/09\/12\/china-wants-to-keep-ev-know-how-in-the-country\/\">steps to protect its industry knowledge<\/a>. The European Union is also planning to launch import tariffs against Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers, but is not quite as strict as the USA, even already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.electrive.com\/2024\/09\/11\/eu-could-slightly-weaken-special-tariffs-for-china-made-evs\/\">considering softening the tariffs<\/a>.
