Between April and June, the company sold 63,000 BEVs worldwide, marking a 25 per cent increase compared to the first quarter of 2026 and a 50 per cent rise compared to the second quarter of 2025.

Of these BEVs, 52,900 units were passenger cars, while 10,100 units were vans. Across all drive types, the group sold 511,900 cars and vans in the past quarter (+2 per cent year-on-year). The growing significance of electric models is highlighted by their share of sales: in the passenger car segment, this rose from 7.7 per cent in Q2 2025 to 13 per cent. In other words, one in eight new Mercedes passenger cars sold in the last three months was powered by an electric drivetrain.

A closer look at the performance of Mercedes-Benz Cars reveals that the passenger car division sold 417,800 units worldwide in the second quarter, an 8 per cent decline compared to the same period last year. The drop is primarily due to weak performance in China, where sales fell by 30 per cent to just under 100,000 units in Q2.

For the first half of the year, China’s sales figures show a significant decline of 28 per cent. However, Mercedes performed better outside China: “As in the first quarter, total sales outside China exceeded prior-year levels (+2 per cent), supported by continued growth in key Western markets, including North America (+13 per cent), Europe (+4 per cent), with Germany up 6 per cent,” the carmaker stated.

43,500 new battery-electric passenger cars in Europe alone

Focusing on battery-electric sales, Mercedes-Benz Cars delivered 52,900 BEVs worldwide between April and June, a 51 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. Europe remains the core market, with 43,500 BEVs sold and an 87 per cent growth rate. Here, one in four Mercedes passenger cars (26 per cent) is now fully electric. Mercedes highlights its home market, Germany, where BEV sales “more than doubled” in the last quarter – equating to growth of over 100 per cent. Key contributors to this strong performance included the electric CLA, the electric GLC, and the electric GLB. However, media reports suggest that the production launch of the GLC was slower than planned due to shortages of key components.

For regions such as Asia (including China), North America, and other markets grouped under ‘Rest of the World’, the manufacturer does not provide detailed BEV sales figures but only outlines the overall sales performance across all drive types. However, the Stuttgart-based company emphasised that the launch of new electric models is driving its ambition to “significantly increase electric vehicle sales in 2026.” The new electric C-Class, which has been available for order in Europe since May as a potential volume driver, is expected to boost sales figures with notable deliveries soon. Customer orders for the new electric GLC, electric CLA, electric GLB, and the S-Class already extend into next year, at least in Europe.

21 per cent of all new Mercedes passenger cars feature a plug

Mercedes-Benz Cars does not provide separate figures for its plug-in hybrid sales. However, the carmaker notes that BEVs and PHEVs are gaining traction in Europe’s sales mix. The two drive types are combined in the company’s statistics as ‘xEVs’: “The xEV share reached 43 per cent in Europe. Globally, xEV sales reached 87,500 vehicles in Q2, representing an xEV share of 21 per cent.”

In its sales report, the manufacturer dedicates a detailed section to addressing its strategy for countering challenges in China. “In China, Mercedes-Benz Cars sales declined amid intense competition, cautious consumer sentiment, ongoing model transitions and active sales steering,” the analysis states. The challenges intensified in the second quarter, particularly in the internal combustion engine vehicle segment.

The turnaround is expected to come from a new generation of models tailored specifically to Chinese customers. These are set to launch in the second half of the year, “including the electric GLC L with long-wheelbase, the new S‑Class and Mercedes-Maybach S‑Class, as well as the new GLE.” Additionally, an AI-powered cockpit and an advanced driver-assistance system are to be rolled out across nearly the entire model range within the next six to twelve months.

Mathias Geisen, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Sales & Customer, commented: “Our largest-ever model launch plan is gaining traction. […] The new S-Class has made a successful start in Europe, with further regions to follow in the coming months. With the all-new electric C-Class, available to order since May, and the world premiere of the all-new electric GLA at the end of July, we are taking the next steps in our launch plan.”

Eleven per cent of new vans are electric

Finally, a look at the Q2 sales figures for Mercedes-Benz Vans: the division recorded 94,100 sales in the last quarter, including 10,100 BEVs. While overall sales remained nearly flat compared to the previous year (+1 per cent), the 10,100 BEVs represent a 46 per cent increase compared to Q2 2025 and a 64 per cent rise compared to Q1 2026. The global electric share accordingly increased to 11 per cent (up from 7 per cent in Q2 2025). In Europe, the electric share even reached 13 per cent (up from 10 per cent in Q2 2025).

“Sales were shaped by a continued volatile and competitive market environment, as well as lower demand for mid-sized vans in China. At the same time, strong growth in North America helped to offset these effects,” the manufacturer noted. Europe also contributed positively, with sales in the region rising by 5 per cent compared to the previous year.

media.mercedes-benz.com

Mercedes-Benz ha publicado sus cifras de ventas correspondientes al segundo trimestre y ha atribuido la estabilidad de sus resultados principalmente a un aumento significativo de las ventas de vehículos eléctricos de batería.
