FIA has officially confirmed that the World Rallycross Championship (WRX) will switch to fully electric cars from 2020. They now released a tender calling on battery developers to supply their race-ready system\u00a0to cover the entire seasons 2020 to 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Similar to the beginnings of the Formula E, the switch of the World Rallycross Championship (WRX) will be made with electric racers using (some) common components first.<\/p>\n
Comes the end of season 2019, the WRX will feature electric cars only as reported<\/a>. For this, FIA is looking for a battery supplier to come up with a common system for the e-racers to cover three seasons until 2023.<\/p>\n The tender states: “The aim of Electric Rallycross is to allow the development of electric technologies and race for the efficiency of the traction chain of the car, to showcase that electric cars are as fun and powerful as thermal [combustion] ones. In order to maintain cost control with a high level of technology, the FIA is defining a battery pack that all car manufacturers will have to use in their cars which are then delivered to competitors.”<\/p>\n Another tender calling for a carbon monocoque single-chassis will be issued soon.
