National Express Coventry expects 130 electric double-deckers

National Express Coventry has ordered 130 electric double-decker buses to enter service in Coventry by early 2023. The order follows the city’s targets to go 100% electric by 2025. At present, charging infrastructure is being built at the depots and Pool Meadow bus station.

Xplore Dundee takes delivery of a dozen electric double-deckers

The manufacturer alliance Alexander Dennis Limited and BYD has delivered twelve battery-electric double-deckers to the Scottish city of Dundee. Bus operator Xplore Dundee which belongs to the McGill’s Group will use the Enviro400EV buses on route 28, serving Dundee’s Lochee Road, which is the fourth most polluted street in Scotland.

Ireland launches huge tender for electric double-deckers

Ireland’s national transport authority NTA published a tender for up to 800 all-electric double-decker buses for use in the country’s large cities, as well as on some town bus services. Buying is to start in the second half of 2022 over a period of five years.

London opens all-electric double-deck bus route 94

London now got its third all-electric double-deck bus line on route 94, running between Acton Green and Piccadilly Circus. The electrification of route 94 brings the current total of electric double-deck buses in the capital to 280.

BYD presents mobile charging station for electric buses

China’s leading bus maker BYD and their British partner Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) presented a new version of their Enviro200EV electric bus at the Euro Bus Expo in Birmingham. The 10 metre electric vehicle features an extra space big enough to fit a wheelchair but also a mobile charging station.

Electric double-decker launch: London now has its first electric double-decker bus. Built by BYD, the model will be joined by another four to serve on two routes in the British capital. It can travel 306 km carrying 81 passengers and needs 4 hours to recharge at the depot overnight. If all works well, the vehicle could potentially prove a “great solution for a large part” of the London bus fleet, TfL said.
