London introduces scrappage scheme

The City of London has launched a £110 million scrappage scheme for combustion engine vehicles. This follows the announced extension of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) to the whole of London from 29 August 2023. The scrappage subsidies target economically vulnerable groups.

Electric cargo bike with integrated solar panels

Two German companies, OPES Solutions and Urban Mobility, have teamed up to equip a heavy-duty electric cargo bike with integrated solar panels. The makers say this extends the range of the bike by up to 20 per cent with full utilisation of the 250 kg payload plus rider.

Electric cargo bike pilot starts in Ghana

Impact Hub Accra and Siemens Stiftung has just launched the project Electric Cargo Bikes ‘Made in Ghana.’ The first two workshops in Accra and Tamale will start operations in March and will use a business model focussed on small entrepreneurs in the delivery sector.

Austria boosts EV and charge point subsidies

The Austrian government is increasing purchase premiums and subsidies for charging infrastructure for zero-emission and plug-in hybrid vehicles from 1 July. This includes zero-emission and plug-in hybrid cars, zero-emission heavy and light commercial vehicles, zero-emission buses, and electric two-wheelers – including e-motorbikes, mopeds, e-bikes and e-cargo bikes.
