Hydrogen from renewables: In its push to make fuel cell vehicles emission-free, the Japanese government started an initiative for H2 from renewable sources. The Environment Ministry initially intends to set up 100 units across Japan by 2019. The first five stations will go up within the next two months. 75 percent of the cost is covered by the government on the condition that benefactors like companies and authorities use FCVs as official vehicles.

The million miles milestone has been reached by an electric cab service in Scottish Dundee. 203020 Electric introduced a fleet of 30 Nissan Leaf cabs only last April and is delighted to have reached its target ahead of schedule. Drivers save up to 120 GBP a week in fuel costs and the company looks to expand.

Electric patrol: The police in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, has replaced ten Ford Crown Vics with Toyota Camry Hybrids. The city thus saves about three percent of its annual budget and enables officers to approach silently. As Ford discontinued the traditional Crown Vic, carmakers are rushing in to fill the gap.
