Tesla & Fastned open “Europe’s largest charging hub”

Fastned and Tesla have opened the ‘Ladepark Kreuz Hilden’ last night. Equipped with 20 superchargers and eight Fastned charging stations, it will be one of the largest charge parks for each of the two companies in its final stage. Our reporter Sebastian Schaal was at the opening.

Amazon building major EV charging park in Germany

The e-commerce giant Amazon has announced its largest deployment of electric mobility in Germany to date. The distribution centre in Essen has been equipped with 340 charging stations and operates more than 150 electric delivery vehicles every day.

Boschung reveals autonomous electric street sweepers

The Swiss company Boschung has announced the launch of a purely electrically driven and fully autonomous sweeper. The 2.3-tonne machine, called Urban-Sweeper S2.0, will be able to work eight hours at a stretch. Five units are already in operation in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

The Ducktrain is a new innovation from RWTH Aachen University. The Aachen-based company DroidDrive is developing an electrically driven articulated train consisting of trailers that are to swarm out autonomously in the delivery area. A first prototype has now started testing.

Transit operator RVK turns to fuel cell buses

In Germany, Cologne-region public transport operator Regionalverkehr Köln (RVK) has increased its fuel cell bus fleet with hydrogen buses from Solaris. From 2021, 15 Solaris hydrogen fuel cell buses will be successively integrated into RVK’s fleet.

Biggest EU Tesla charge park yet planned in Germany

Tesla’s largest fast-charging park in the EU will soon go online on a plot of land owned by bakery Roland Schüren at the Hilden motorway junction (A3/A46) near Düsseldorf. Fastned is also planning to set up fast-charging points for other electric cars right there.

Juicar EV-by-subscription launched in Germany & Italy

The Swiss energy group Alpiq is now launching its electric mobility subscription service Juicar in Germany and Italy. Juicar has been on the market in Switzerland since August 2018. In Germany the subscription is now available nationwide in cooperation with the fleet operator Arval.

e.GO planning JV with unnamed Chinese company

German electric vehicle startup e.GO Mobile is planning a joint venture with a Chinese company. According to e.GO boss Günther Schuh, a Chinese version of the e.GO Life will be produced there. The contracts have apparently been signed, but not yet implemented.

Ford goes to Carnival

Germany buys electric buses from BYD

German public transport companies Bogestra (Bochum-Gelsenkirchener Straßenbahnen) and HCR (Straßenbahn Herne-Castrop-Rauxel) have ordered a total of 22 electric buses from Chinese electric automotive giant BYD (Build Your Dreams). This is the first electric-bus order for BYD from Germany.

Extra small electric car Microlino to be made in Germany

German sports car manufacturer Artega has taken over all rights for the production of the Swiss electric city car Microlino from Tazzari of Italy. The latter wants to focus on projects outside the urban segment instead. Hence Artega also acquired the rights to the Tazzaro electric taxi e-cab but first to the electric Isetta remake.

Cologne testing Ford Transit PHEV fleet

Ford will be providing ten Transit PHEVs for use by municipal enterprises based in Cologne, starting next spring. The project will analyse how hybrid vehicles can help achieve the city’s pollution targets. Similar fleet tests were undertaken by Ford in London and Valencia.

Super Chargers for China: Tesla announced the start of negotiations and preparations to install a network of its Super Chargers across the Asian nation. The first corridor to open up for all-electric rides is planned to be Beijing-Shanghai. When the first chargers will be ready for use is not said.

Canada electrified: VIA Motors has signed an 80 million dollar purchase agreement with Sun Country Highway. A deposit of 8m dollars for the first 100 VIA electric-vans has already been placed. The vehicles will go to Best Western Hotels in Canada, which have been supplied with 1,000 public chargers by the privately funded electrification project Sun Country Highway.

“Klimaschutz made in NRW”: This is the Denglish slogan of a new initiative in the German city of Essen. “NRW” is short for Northrhine-Westphalia while “Klimaschutz” means climate protection and is in this case a mini-fleet of four electric cars. For the next two years, employees of the State Office for environment and consumer protection will drive around in three Renault Zoé and one Fluence to test if EVs are a viable option for their daily routines. If so, more will be purchased.
