Bosch eBike Systems has made progress on a standard for measuring the ranges of e-bikes with defined parameters. The R200 has been developed in cooperation with ZIV (Germany’s bicycle industry association) and major companies from the bicycle industry are getting behind it.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles took its smallest delivery vehicle to date to the new “micromobility expo” in Hanover. The VW Cargo e-Bike (sic!) is due to hit the road this year, and the start of serial production imminent.

TU Delft & Gazelle developing crash-proof e-bike (video)

TU Delft, together with the bicycle manufacturer Gazelle, has developed the prototype of a crash-proof e-bike. The intelligent control assistant intervenes as soon as the electric bike threatens to tip over and keeps the bike stable and upright at speeds of over 4 km/h.

Germany paves way for electric micro-mobilty

The German federal cabinet has passed the long-announced Small Electric Vehicle Ordinance (eKFV). Now it is up to the federal council to take the next steps. It could adopt the new regulations on 17 May so that the regulation would enter into force this spring.

Scotland funds e-bikes with half a million pounds

The Scottish government is serving the second round of its eBike Grant Fund designed to help organisations, universities and communities to purchase e-bikes. A total of £462,000 (526,925 euros) will go into buying new e-bikes, including electric cargo bikes.

Paris to launch world’s largest electric bicycle fleet

The greater Paris area will be launching a state-funded initiative to move commuters from driving cars and switch to electric bicycles. Starting in September 2019, Ile-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) will set up 10,000 e-bikes for long-term rental, with an option to expand to 20,000, which would make it the world’s largest e-bike rental programme.

UPS launches custom-made cargo e-bikes

34 new cargo pedelecs have joined the European fleet of logistics giant UPS. The bikes were specifically developed for the carrier together with Rytle. After initial testing in Germany, the cargo e-bikes are now coming to France, Belgium and the Netherlands.
