StoreDot to open innovation centre in the USA

The Israeli battery developer StoreDot has announced a global innovation centre in the USA to accelerate the development of solid-state batteries. It is to be built in California, but StoreDot has not yet named an exact location.

GM invests in battery cell development

General Motors is building a new battery cell innovation centre on its Global Technical Center campus in Warren, Michigan. The facility will be dedicated to the development and production of GM’s next-generation Ultium cells and will be operational by mid-2022.

Sakuu to start pilot line for solid-state batteries

Sakuu Corporation has started the construction of a pilot line for the production of solid-state batteries with an annual capacity of 2.5 MWh. In May, the company announced a 3D industrial printer to enable the rapid mass production of solid-state traction batteries.

QuantumScape starts testing ten-layered solid-state cells

Solid-state battery specialist and Volkswagen partner QuantumScape has announced the development of ten-layer battery cells in a recent quarterly report. The goal is to lead the new cells to similar capacity retention and cycling behaviour as the previous single- and four-layer cells.

US solid-state battery specialist Solid Power, backed by Ford and BMW, announces its IPO. For the targeted listing on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol SLDP, Solid Power is merging with SPAC company Riverstone Holdings LLC’s Decarbonization Plus Acquisition Corporation III.

Ford boosts e-mobility investments by $8 billion

Ford announced in an online presentation for investors that it is increasing its investment in electric mobility to more than 30 billion US dollars by 2025. This is eight billion dollars more than previously planned. The US carmaker also mentioned further product plans.

QuantumScape to open second pilot plant

Solid-state battery specialist QuantumScape plans to issue 13 million new shares. The expected proceeds of $859 million are to be invested in the company’s planned pilot plant and in the joint venture with Volkswagen. In connection with the joint venture, there is also talk of a second pilot plant.

Métropole Rouen Normandie orders 10 eCitaro

The public transport provider in the metropolitan region of north-western France,  Métropole Rouen Normandie, has ordered ten electric buses from Daimler. The ten eCitaro are to be delivered this summer and the public transport provider will be utilising different battery technologies for the vehicles.

Their most prominent customer is Daimler.

Mercedes eCitaro with solid-state batteries in Bremen

In Germany, Bremer Straßenbahn AG (BSAG) has ordered five Mercedes-Benz eCitaro with solid-state batteries to arrive in early 2022. The scope of supply also includes five permanently installed charging systems, each with an output of 150 kW, as well as three mobile workshop chargers of 40 kW each.

ASTRABAT EU project to further solid-state batteries

A new EU project called ASTRABAT has been created to push forward with the development of solid-state battery cells. The aim of the project is to create such cells for electric vehicles and other applications in Europe. The project consortium comprises 14 partners from eight European countries.
