China’s electric car manufacturers recorded rising sales figures for electric cars and plug-in hybrids in August. BYD surpassed the 60,000 new electric vehicle (NEV) sales mark for the first time. By comparison, Tesla sold 44,264 of its vehicles manufactured in China last month.

Xpeng increases deliveries and losses

The Chinese electric car manufacturer Xpeng has presented its business figures for the second quarter of 2021. Deliveries climbed to 17,398 vehicles from April to June, an increase of 439 per cent compared to the previous year. Xpeng also announced plans to release at least two new models every year from 2023.

Xpeng P5 to launch in China for under €25,000

Chinese electric car manufacturer Xpeng has priced its third production model, the P5, to be launched in China in the third quarter of 2021 and delivered in the fourth quarter of 2021. The electric sedan will start at prices starting at 180,000 yuan after subsidies (equivalent to around 23,500 euros).

China marks strong NEV sales in November

According to the China Passenger Car Association, around 169,000 New Energy Vehicles (BEVs, PHEVs and FCEVs) were sold in China in November, 136.5 per cent more than in the same month last year. Most electric vehicles sold last month were SAIC GM Wuling (SGMW), BYD and Tesla.
