Kia to introduce the EV4 sedan in Canada

Kia is gearing up to introduce its new EV4 sedan in Canada, skipping the US market for the time being. With a starting price of $38,995, Kia Canada aims to make the vehicle "the most affordable dedicated EV in Canada."

The Kia EV4 actually became available in Canada at the end of last year, marking the entry of the brand’s first global sedan model, following a series of SUV models. Kia writes that this model choice was made to drop an alternative in a very SUV-heavy market. The model is already available to order; however, customers will have to wait a little before deliveries begin, as Kia has only specified that they will begin in the first half of 2026. All models also feature V2L capabilities.

In terms of technical specifications, the EV4 for the North American market will feature NACS ports for charging, coupled with an impressive range of 552 kilometres, at least in the ‘Wind Long-Range FWD trim’. The car is based on a 400V platform, which allows for a 10-80 per cent charge in about 30 minutes, depending on battery size. Two batteries are available at the moment, with either a standard 58.3 kWh battery for the ‘Light’ models, or an 81.4 kWh battery for the ‘Wind’, ‘Wind Premium’, ‘GT-Line’ and ‘GT-Line Limited’ versions.

Prices for the models start at $38,995 MSRP, and continue upwards from there, costing $42,995 for the Wind FWD Long Range, $45,495 for the Wind Premium, $48,495 for the GT-Line FWD Long Range, and, finally, $51,995 for the range-topping GT-Line Limited FWD/AWD Long Range version.

Four variants are available at launch, starting with the ‘Light Standard Range FWD’, which goes for the above-mentioned starting price, and delivers a range of up to 391 km. Next up is the ‘Wind Long Range FWD’, which brings the range up to the maximum of 552 km per charge. The other variants, ‘Wind Premium Long Range FWD’ and ‘GT-Line / GT-Line Limited’ promise more comfort and acceleration, but bring the range down to 515 km and 488 km, respectively.

The EV4 models sold in Canada will be manufactured at Kia’s Autoland Gwangmyeong EVO Plant in South Korea. Whether deliveries for the US-American market will start remains unclear, after Kia had announced that it would indefinitely postpone the launch there towards the end of last year. We also recently had the opportunity to take the car out for a test spin.

“The Kia EV4 provides the first accessible, all-electric sedan to Canadian consumers who are looking for affordability, without sacrificing advanced technology, cutting-edge styling, and the driving experience only a sedan can deliver,” said David Sherrard, Director of Strategic Planning for Kia Canada. “The arrival of the EV4 further cements Kia’s commitment to providing widely accessible EV mobility solutions to the Canadian market.”
