Incentives in Germany: Reuters reports that the German Finance Ministry will definitely propose a 5,000 euro incentive for electric car purchases and 3,000 euros for plug-in hybrids until June 2018. After that, incentives will be reduced and cars with a price tag of 60,000 euros or more will not qualify. Moreover, a total of 1.2bn euros have been earmarked for the scheme, half of which will be footed by the auto industry. If funding runs out, it will not be adjusted.

T-Prime: Volkswagen unveiled the new plug-in hybrid T-Prime Concept GTE with all-wheel drive at Auto China 2016 in Beijing. The 134 hp electric motor and combustion engine have a combined output of 375 hp. The car can be fully charged in 2.5 hours and features three driving modes: E-mode, Hybrid and GTE.

Toyota plugs in: Toyota will launch plug-in hybrid versions of both the Corolla and Levin in 2018 in China. The decision is driven by powerful consumer incentives in the country. The cars must therefore adhere to certain requirements, including the ability to run on fully-electric for more than 50 km.

Hyundai SUV: Hyundai has announced plans to roll out its first all-electric SUV by 2018, said to be developed on a completely different platform than the Ioniq and able to go 320 km on a single charge. In comparison: the range of the Ioniq is estimated at 180 km. Market watchers suspect Hyundai is now actively focusing on the SUV market.

New hires: Tesla has been updating their sales leadership since last year. Electrek now reports that O’Neil CEO and former Nike executive, Willem Haitink, is to lead sales in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). Haitink will be based at Tesla’s European headquarters in Amsterdam.

E-Elysee glimpse: The electric Citroën E-Elysee (we reported) has made its first appearance at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show. It provides up to 250 km of range and is scheduled to hit the Chinese market in 2017. It is the first of Citroën’s new electric vehicle line-up, and it remains unclear whether the E-Elysee will be offered outside of China.
