The charging sites are located in Cortland, Waterloo, Lake Placid, Niagara Falls, and Ripley, and are being supported by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. No details were provided on the exact power output of the charging points nor the number of charging bays available to users.

As the largest charging network in the US, ChargePoint currently operates more than 48,000 charging stations across the country. The majority of these feature level 2 ports, as well as around 1,675 fast-charging ports.

“ChargePoint’s collaboration with NYSERDA demonstrates the critical role that public-private partnerships will continue to play in the build out of charging infrastructure, particularly at the state level,” said Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint, adding: “When all types of institutions work together to defray costs, much-needed EV charging infrastructure can scale at an accelerated pace.”

NYSERDA’s Clean Transportation program provides funding to subsidize private EV charging infrastructure across the state of New York. It claims that fifty per cent of the fast-charging stations it funds are in communities designated as disadvantaged.
