The facility is located in Warwickshire, the Midlands, where many other UK-based automakers are based. Its production targets exceed 500 units this year, with the company sent to export its EVs to markets including the US and Mediterranean.

The low-volume OEM held a launch event at an open day for its European retail partners, investors, and British politicians. The company says the new facility has created dozens of new jobs, tripling its overall workforce.

Nick English, Executive Chairman of Moke International, said: “It’s great to be bringing back production to the UK and indeed the car manufacturing heartland in the Midlands, where the Moke was originally designed by Sir Alec Issigonis. As we now celebrate 60 years of Moke, we are thrilled to be marking such an exciting chapter, enhancing our craftsmanship and innovation while laying the foundation for future success.”

Moke’s refreshed colour customisation options can be viewed via a configurator on the company’s website. It’s now available in six body colours, including shades of yellow, orange, blue, green and white. Customers can also choose between black and cream for the soft top and the interior upholstery.

The current BEV version has a rear-wheel drive with a maximum power output of 33kW. This gives the Moke a top speed of 80 kph and a combined WLTP range of between 72 and 129km. Its Type 2 charger provides a full charge in four hours. Prices start at £29,150 (€33,000 approx).

Initially designed as a military jeep, the revived Moke is a popular outdoor vehicle commonly referred to as a ‘beach jeep’. It has long been billed as a short-range vehicle to ferry people from ‘beach-house-to-waterfront’. It was first manufactured by the British Motor Company before being marketed under the British brands Austin, Morris, and Leyland.

It has been manufactured or assembled in a number of different countries over the years, including China, where it is built by Chery International; France, by Nosmoke SAS; plus in USA, by Cruise Car Inc. It was acquired by the EV Technology Group in 2022, with production subsequently returning to Northampton in the UK under Fablink.
