Lexus reveals further details of the ES electric sedan

The new Lexus ES has celebrated its European premiere. According to Lexus, the new edition of the sedan presented in China in April will go on sale in Europe in spring 2026 - including in the BEV variants ES 350e and 500e, for which Lexus has now revealed more detailed technical data.

At the world premiere at Auto China in Shanghai, there was some data on the drive of the two electric drive variants, but not on the battery. Lexus is now making up for this at the European premiere: Contrary to assumptions, the ES 350e and 500e do not have the same battery, but two very similar storage units: in the ES 350e with front-wheel drive, Lexus states the energy content as 77 kWh (specifically: 76.96 kWh), while in the all-wheel drive model it is actually a slightly smaller battery at 75 kWh (74.69 kWh).

The performance data is known: The ES 350e is a 165 kW front-wheel drive model, while the ES 500e with a second electric motor has a system output of 252 kW. This means that the top model can accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, while the 350e needs 8.2 seconds – the acceleration figures from Lexus Europe also differ slightly from the data from the world premiere in China (5.9 and 8.9 seconds).

However, the charging capacity is the same: both batteries can be charged with a maximum of 150 kW. The standard charging process from ten to 80 per cent should take around 30 minutes at an ideal outside temperature of 25 degrees. At temperatures around freezing point, Lexus specifies around 40 minutes, and at ten degrees below zero, even 60 minutes.

In terms of drive systems, Lexus now writes that both BEV versions should “unlock the full potential of the new Lexus global architecture-K platform,” for example with the new electric axle drives, in which the power control unit is integrated alongside the motor and transmission. This not only reduces the weight, but also creates more space in the interior. There should be plenty of space in the 5.14 metre long and 1.92 metre wide saloon.

The new generation of the ES is available in all-electric form for the first time, but as with its predecessor, two hybrids are also on offer. The variant with the 2.0-litre petrol engine presented in China is not available in Europe; only the versions with the 2.5-litre engine are offered here. In Western Europe, it is available as the ES 300h with 148 kW system output and in Eastern Europe as the ES 350h with 182 kW – both as front-wheel drive or with all-wheel drive. However, Lexus has not yet announced prices for the hybrid and electric versions. The sales launch is not planned until spring 2026.
