Geely partners with Voltron on Indonesia EV charging

The Indonesian charge point operator Voltron is set to provide charging facilities at all Geely dealerships in the country, following an agreement between both parties. In practice, that means six dealerships are set to gain charging infrastructure.

Since entering the Indonesian market in January, Geely has seemingly enjoyed a bout of rapid initial success in the country. At the end of February, Geely claimed it had received over 1000 orders for its EX5 SUV. It also won ‘Favourite New Comer Car Brand’ at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS). The firm has not only sold vehicles in Indonesia, but moved some of its production there – for example, the Bekasi Phase II manufacturing facility which, in partnership with PT Handal Indonesia Motor, is set to produce the Geely EX5 to local standards from Q3 of this year.

But with only six Indonesian dealerships currently to its name, the agreement with Voltron doesn’t exactly sound like a substantial investment in charging infrastructure for the country. However, during its Indonesian launch, Geely stated it “aims to establish 100 sales and service outlets throughout Indonesia within the next three years, building a comprehensive network”. As Geely’s authorized dealer network grows, so too should the corresponding charging hubs.

Furthermore, Voltron might not be a globally recognised brand, but it does have a fair claim to having a substantial charging network. In fact, the company calls itself ‘Indonesia’s largest licensed SPKLU network’ – SPKLU being the local acronym for Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station. It claims to have about 400+ public charging points with 50 being added every month. One could assume that Geely customers will not only be given access to Voltron chargers at Geely dealerships, but have the opportunity to lean on the Voltron network elsewhere in the country.

Yusuf Anshori, brand director of Geely Auto Indonesia, commented: “This collaboration with Voltron is concrete proof of Geely’s commitment to accelerating the transition to electric vehicles in Indonesia. With the presence of Voltron charging station facilities in our authorized dealer network, customers can now enjoy more practical and convenient charging, enhancing the overall electric vehicle ownership experience.”
