Xpeng launches the G7 electric SUV in China
Xpeng’s product offensive continues: with the G7, the VW partner in China is launching an SUV for an entry-level price of 235,800 yuan – the equivalent of around 28,400 euros. The most important key data for the new model are already known from the registration application for the model in China, which was made public in the winter. At 4.892 millimetres, the G7 will be Xpeng’s longest electric SUV to date, but is only one millimetre longer than Xpeng’s electric flagship, the G9. The G7 is also 1.93 metres wide and 1.66 metres high, with a wheelbase of 2.89 metres. With these dimensions, Xpeng has positioned the SUV above the G6.
The model will be launched in the Max and Ultra trim levels. In both cases, the G7 comes with rear-wheel drive with 218 kW and an LFP battery from CALB. The latter is available in 68.5 and 80.8 kWh sizes. Xpeng puts the maximum range at up to 702 kilometres according to the Chinese test cycle (with the larger battery and 18-inch wheels). Optional 20-inch wheels are also available. Depending on the battery option, the specified minimum range is 577 or 677 kilometres according to the CLTC.
According to Car News China, Xpeng is introducing several technological innovations within its own model range with the G7, including an augmented reality system with an 87-inch display developed in collaboration with Huawei and a fully visual driving assistance system with in-house ‘Turing AI chips’. The higher Ultra configuration includes three of these chips with a computing power of 2,200 TOPS (‘which corresponds to the performance of nine Nvidia Orin-X chips’), which are intended to enable sophisticated driving assistance functions. In this context, Xpeng also emphasises that the G7 supports level 3 automated driving and ‘relies entirely on camera sensors instead of LiDAR for end-to-end AI driving’, as it says.
Visually, the G7 picks up on the design language of Xpeng’s second-generation vehicle and features a continuous daytime running light at the front, among other things. The rear design also includes a continuous tail light, which is integrated into the rear wings and tailgate. Other highlights include frameless doors with electronic soft-close function and flush door handles. There is a choice of six exterior colours.
The interior of the G7 has a minimalist design centred around a 15.6-inch display. Comfort features include seats with ventilation, heating and massage functions, an audio system with 20 loudspeakers, ambient lighting and an 8-inch control screen in the rear. The second row of seats also has a folding table with magnetic attachment points behind the front passenger seat. Also on board: a panoramic sunroof and a digital rear-view mirror.
Xpeng plans to launch the G7 in the third quarter of 2025 and start deliveries in the same quarter. The product launch is expected to further boost sales, with Xpeng already consistently exceeding the monthly mark of 30,000 units delivered for seven months. Cumulative deliveries of Xpeng in the first five months of 2025 currently stand at 162,578 units, which corresponds to a whopping 293 per cent increase compared to the previous year.
