Xiaomi sets speed record for fastest EV
Xiaomi has stated that its goal behind the SU7 Ultra was always “to conquer Nürburgring Nordschleife”, and that the production model of this EV has achieved this goal by setting the ‘Fastest Electric Executive Vehicle’ record in April. Driver Vincent Radermecker completed the first official round on the north loop of the Nürburgring, nabbing not only the ‘Electric Executive Car’ record but also becoming the fastest electric series vehicle on the Nordschleife. (The previous records were for the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT on the northern loop at 7:07.55, then the Rimac Nevera at 7:05.298 minutes.)
The company also added that a prototype model of the SU7 Ultra earlier nabbed an even faster lap time of 6:22.091. That gives it third place in the records for prototype vehicle laps. Specifically, this follows a track test back in October 2024, when British racing driver David Pittard obtained a lap time of 6:46.874 minutes with the prototype SU7 ultra, setting a record for a four-door vehicle on the track. Pittard then undercut his own record with the prototype by 24 seconds at the beginning of April, when he obtained the 6:22.091 minute prototype record.
The news of the track record coincides with the market launch and deliveries of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra series, which began shipping this week in China. The SU7 Ultra is a sports variant of the electric SU7 sedan which was released last summer, but is now available as both a ‘Track Package’ and an exclusive ‘Nürburgring Limited Edition’ – the name reflecting the new track records. The naming rights were likely made possible by the partnership between the racetrack itself and Xiaomi; in May, Xiaomi became ‘Premium Partner’ of the Nürburgring and is the name sponsor of curve 12 of the Grand Prix route. This partnership is also what gave Xiaomi access to the Nürburgring for testing and development trips.

SU7, ‘Track Package’ and Limited Edition
To recap, the standard production model of SU7 Ultra contains the same electric drive as the Ultra Prototype, as well as three electric motors: two ‘Super Motor V8s’ and one ‘Super Motor V6’ unit. The former are intended to deliver roughly equivalent power to a V8 petrol engine, at 425kW each – while the latter is the equivalent of a V6 engine with 288kW power. All in all, it means that the SU7 Ultra pushes 1,138kW of power and up to 1,770Nm of torque – delivering top speeds of 350km/h or 0-100km/h in 1.98 seconds. When it was first announced, the SU7 Ultra had a price tag of 814,900 yuan (€96,800), but this was quickly reduced to 529,900 yuan (€62,965) – with little explanation from Xiaomi as to what made this possible.
So what about the other two variants of the SU7 Ultra? First off, the ‘Track Package’ comes as an add-on to the standard model and costs 100,000 yuan (€11,882). For that, you’ll get Bilstein EVO R for Ultra coilover shock absorbers, ENDLESS brake pads, Pirelli P ZERO 5th-generation tyres, an additional set of Pirelli P ZERO TROFEO RS semi-slick tyres, 21-inch shaped forged wheels, carbon fiber rear wheel arches, and a 1.7m-sq carbon fiber roof. Picking this up will then cost a total of 629,900 yuan (€74,850).
Then there’s the Nürburgring Limited Edition. Despite all its racing embellishments, this variant is fully road-legal and comes packed with everything from the Track Package, plus a full carbon fiber exterior and interior trim, spoiler, and dual-vent hood. On top of that, it includes Ultra Lightning decals, carbon fiber racing bucket seats with a semi-roll cage, and a carbon fiber underbody aero panel. It’ll cost a total of 814,900 yuan (€96,880), and critically, be limited to only 10 units this model year – with a total production cap of 100 units overall ‘to ensure exclusivity’.
