BP Pulse opens new San Francisco charging hub

BP Pulse's latest EV charging hub has just opened near San Francisco Airport. It follows a series of collaborations between the brand and car hire company Hertz to build charging hubs near US airports.

In a Facebook announcement, BP Pulse revealed that the new location has twelve 400kW ‘ultrafast’ charging bays with a mix of NACS and CCS connections. Judging by the photograph, each charging tower has two sockets, which means two vehicles will only charge at up to 200kW if plugged in simultaneously.

The new hub is placed three miles from San Francisco International Airport, which BP Pulse says builds on its collaboration with Hertz to install charging hubs near airports and high-traffic locations. In a statement, BP Pulse said: “These locations are particularly aimed at ride-hail drivers, providing them with fast and convenient charging on the go – as well as airport EV renters and local EV owners.”

In April of this year, this collaboration also saw BP Pulse open an EV charging hub just outside of Boston Logan Airport, with a reduced launch tariff of $0.36/kWh before taxes and fees. BP Pulse has not confirmed whether a similar reduced rate will be available for a promotional period at the San Francisco location. However, bp has said it plans to continue adding airport locations alongside the growth of its existing retail network. It said: “BP is focused on EV charging in 4 key growth markets globally, and the US is one of them. We expect to see increasing demand for fuels and EV charging in the US and we are integrating to serve customers more efficiently, no matter what they drive.”
