Ionna has announced a partnership with Wawa, an operator of convenience stores and petrol stations on the US East Coast. The first Rechargery will open next week in Daytona Beach, with further sites already under construction across Florida.

The charge point operator, a joint venture founded by BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, and Toyota, does not mention how many sites in total will be equipped with chargers or how many charging points each location will offer. Ionna CEO Seth Cutler only says that the opening of the “Ionna Rechargery at Wawa in Daytona Beach will bring our total bay count to 212 live and 3,064 contracted. That is over 10% contracted to our 2030 live bay goal in just over a year.”

As a reminder, the joint venture aims to install over 30,000 charging bays by 2030. Ionna also points out that the agreement with Wawa marks its single largest EV charging commitment to date, but again, does not go into detail. What is known is that Wawa has more than 1,000 locations across 12 US states.

As with all Rechargery sites, Ionna will install HPC chargers, specifically Alpitronic’s Hypercharger HYC400, with up to 400 kW and both CCS and NACS connections. Also, all Ionna stations built at Wawa stores will have canopies.

Wawa’s Chief Fuel Officer, Rich Makin, commented: “With an ongoing commitment to providing our customers with speed and convenience, our new collaboration with Ionna does just that. As we continue to expand our EV services, we are thrilled to provide our customers with a one-stop for fresh food, beverages and EV charging.”

As mentioned above, further sites are already under construction.  Specifically at Wawa locations in Bradenton, Pensacola, and Orlando, Florida.

The CPO only opened its first location ever at the beginning of the year in South Carolina and has since grown its network in the US at a rapid pace. The goal is to deploy over 1,000 EV charging points by the end of the year.
