Leapmotor launches B01 electric sedan from €10,700 in China
The new starting price of RMB 89,800 marks a 15.12 per cent reduction from the pre-sales starting price announced in late June. The B01 enters China’s competitive mid-size electric sedan segment as the second model in Leapmotor’s B series, following the B10 SUV launched earlier this year.
The B01 is offered in six variants priced between RMB 89,800 and RMB 119,800. Pre-sales for the vehicle began at the end of June, with a base price of 105,800 yuan (approx. 12,600 euros). This made the electric saloon slightly cheaper than its competitor, the Xpeng Mona M03. However, Leapmotor has now significantly reduced the price for the regular sales launch: the car is now available from 89,800 yuan (10,700 euros), which is almost 2,000 euros cheaper. However, this is a variant with a CLTC range of only 430 kilometres, which was not even available in the pre-sale. At that stage, only versions with CLTC ranges of 550 and 650 kilometres were available.
The entry-level model is called the ‘430 Comfort Edition’ in accordance with its range and costs the aforementioned 89,800 yuan. It has an engine power of 100 kW, an LFP battery with 43.9 kWh, a top speed of 150 kph and accelerates from zero to 100 kph in 9.4 seconds.
Three variants offer a range of 550 kilometres with battery capacities of 56.2 kWh, while the two top-end variants provide a CLTC range of 650 kilometres from a 67.1 kWh battery. All variants are equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs.
Leapmotor’s electric sedan supports fast charging, allowing a charge from 30 to 80 per cent in approximately 18 minutes. In terms of dimensions, the B01 measures 4,77 m in length, 1,88 m in width, and 1,49 m in height, with a wheelbase of 2,74 m, positioning it slightly larger than the Tesla Model 3.
The B01 offers a single-motor powertrain with three rear motor options producing peak power outputs of 100 kW, 132 kW, and 160 kW, and peak torques of 175 Nm, 175 Nm, and 240 Nm, respectively. This setup enables acceleration from 0 to 100 kph in 6.4 to 9.4 seconds, depending on the variant. Two variants are equipped with LiDAR to enhance smart driving performance, supporting highway pilot assist, commuting pilot assist, and parking lot memory parking functions.
It is still unclear whether the B01 will come to Europe. Automotive group Stellantis (including Fiat, Opel, and Peugeot) acquired a 20 per cent stake in Leapmotor in 2023 and subsequently established a joint venture to bring Leapmotor to Europe and other markets. Currently, the T03 small car and the C10 SUV are available in Europe, with the B10 compact SUV set to follow next.
