ChargePoint rolls out maintenance service to keep EV chargers running smoothly
Each Safeguard Care visit includes a comprehensive visual inspection of the charging station and surrounding area, cleaning, minor repairs or adjustments, and a test charge to confirm functionality. Issues that cannot be resolved during the visit are escalated to ChargePoint’s support team for further action. The programme is designed to support station operators lacking dedicated on-site maintenance personnel, including municipalities, parking operators, and workplaces with distributed charging networks.
The new initiative builds on existing remote diagnostics and anti-vandalism measures handled by ChargePoint’s network operations centre. According to the company, Safeguard Care complements its existing ChargePoint Assure service offering. It states that, when used together, the combined services aim to provide a complete solution for high-traffic and widely deployed charging infrastructure.
The service is now available in six launch markets, namely in California, Florida, New York, Texas, Massachusetts, and Georgia. It is carried out by a network of trained service providers who perform routine on-site inspections and maintenance, ChargePoint writes.
“Safeguard Care further demonstrates our commitment to delivering a reliable charging experience,” said JD Singh, Chief Customer Experience Officer at ChargePoint. “As the original manufacturer of the chargers, we are able to ensure the highest standards of service and support. With Safeguard Care, we are giving station owners and EV drivers peace of mind knowing that chargers will be in pristine working order.”
The launch of Safeguard Care reflects the increasing need for consistent uptime in public and semi-public EV charging networks, especially in areas with limited local resources for maintenance. ChargePoint plans to expand the programme beyond the initial six markets based on customer demand and operational performance.
This comes after ChargePoint introduced two new solutions to combat vandalism at charging stations at the beginning of the year. The first is a cut-resistant charging cable, and the second is an alarm system to increase the security of charging stations. Both are aimed at increasing uptime and preventing costly repairs.
