Octopus launches new fleet payment card

Octopus Energy's EV charging platform, Electroverse, has just announced a new 'Business Payments Card' for fleets to use to pay for charging and keep track of expenses. It's being delivered in partnership with Visa and places all charging data in a single dashboard.

The new payment card is being offered specifically to fleets as a one-stop card for all fleet needs. So, it can be used not only to pay for EV charging, but also for any expenses that fleet drivers incur while on the road – meaning it can be used to pay for tolls, car washes, and meals, among other things. It’s powered by Visa’s Fleet 2.0 solution, essentially an update to Visa’s existing Fleet platform that incorporates EV charging, tolls, public transit and micro-mobility as well as just fuel.

Besides the card, one USP that Octopus Electroverse is pushing is on the fleet management side of things, i.e. the management dashboard. This dashboard essentially combines all fleet data – not only expenses but also charging patterns – into a single dashboard. This includes “driver behaviours”; VAT costs; receipts; journeys; driver IDs and more into one dashboard. Octopus says it will help avoid drivers and fleet managers being “tangled in admin” as a result. Underpinning all of this is the integration with Octopus Electroverse, i.e. one of Europe’s largest consumer-facing EV charging platforms that features over 1200 brands such as IONITY, InstaVolt, Osprey and more.

Matt Davies, Director of Electroverse, commented: “We’ve made charging simple for drivers – now we’re making the whole fleet experience just as easy for Britain’s six million fleet vehicles*. Fleet managers and drivers have long had to navigate a maze of charging apps and payment solutions. With Visa, we’re proud to launch one of the first Visa Fleet 2.0 cards, putting everything on one card and giving businesses the control they need to speed up their shift to cleaner transport.”

The card will be available in either a physical or digital format, with Octopus planning to offer virtual wallet options. In terms of pricing: the Electroverse website states that a subscription for the Payments Card costs £9.50 (ex. VAT) per driver per month, with new businesses getting two months free subscription costs upon signup. To get the Payments + Public Charging card, which also supports public EV charging and payments, the price is the same: £9.50 per month.

Richard Campion, Head of Fleet & Mobility, Visa Europe said: “Fleet operators are looking for smarter ways to manage the shift to electric, and Visa Fleet 2.0 makes that transition simpler and more efficient. With Electroverse, we’re enabling UK businesses to consolidate on-the-road spending, gain real-time visibility and maintain the security and control they expect from Visa – all while powering a cleaner future for transport.”
