Deftpower secures multi-million euro funding
According to the company, Endeit Capital led the round as the largest investor, which brought Deftpower €12.5 million in fresh capital. “Existing investors Proeza Ventures, 4impact Capital, Rethink Mobility, and business angel Jan Fredriks are participating in the round,” Deftpower stated. As is customary, the exact distribution of funds among the investors was not disclosed.
Deftpower develops and operates an AI-powered charging platform designed to enable EV charging while relieving the grid as much as possible. The platform also handles the start of charging sessions and their billing – meaning transactions run directly via Deftpower.
The USP of the solution is its ability to predict EV charging demand and use this data to control charging sessions. Instead of charging immediately after being plugged in, the vehicle charges during times when renewable energy is plentiful and prices are low. This is supposed to save customers money, cut CO₂ emissions, and reduce strain on the grid. Crucially, Deftpower does not shift charging into a fixed time window (such as 1 a.m.), but flexibly and on demand. “Two-thirds of charging can potentially be moved from peak to off-peak hours, an essential step in building a resilient renewable-based energy system,” the company said.
Deftpower offers its platform as a white-label product for mobility service providers (MSPs) and now counts more than 40 customers across ten European countries. The platform is also used in Amsterdam, where the data supports urban planning. With looming grid overload, city planners often have to choose between building new housing or new charging stations – the grid cannot currently support both. Smart charging with AI is expected to provide new options, as we reported in this background article.
“We know charging your EV is both too expensive and too complicated today and the aggregator role we foresee for the MSP will tie the room together as it should,” said Jacob van Zonneveld, CEO of Deftpower. “All players, including EV drivers, charge point operators and grid operators benefit financially from Deftpower’s charging platform.”
