Amperfied & Pionix to improve charging station reliability
The aim of the new partnership is to increase reliability through a standardised software base, according to the announcement. To ensure that the Amperfied Dynamic DC charging solution no longer experiences unexpected interruptions to the charging process due to communication problems between the vehicle, charging station and backend software, the charging infrastructure subsidiary of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG has made the strategic decision to use the ‘BaseCamp’ software from Pionix, a specialist in charging infrastructure software, as the operating system for the station.
BaseCamp itself uses a version of the open-source framework EVerest that has been optimised for industrial use and is constantly being further developed by a global community in terms of compatibility and stability. Based on this operating system, Amperfied is developing a user interface with its own software resources and intends to “focus on its own value-adding software functions for its customers,” as it says. “BaseCamp means we don’t have to reinvent each standard component and can focus on the critical points that create added value for operators and users,” says Niklas Behl, Senior Vice President of R&D at Amperfied. “The fact that we rely on open source at the core leads to greater compatibility and reliability in day-to-day operations compared to proprietary stand-alone solutions.”
Founded in 2021 and based in Bad Schönborn, the software company aims to establish the open-source application EVerest as a global initiative for standardised and faster development of charging infrastructure. One application is its use as the operating system for charging stations to eliminate issues such as lack of compatibility, high development costs and barriers to innovation. According to Amperfied’s announcement: “For Pionix, the sophisticated, modular hardware of Amperfied Dynamic DC serves as a reference for the application under real industrial conditions.”
“The partnership with Pionix allows us to clearly focus our resources on the areas that actually deliver a meaningful difference for customers,” explained Robin Karpp, Managing Director of Amperfied GmbH. “In addition to the highly available hardware, these are software features that serve user-friendliness and availability, as well as our performance-based service offerings such as the availability-based operating hours model.”
Marco Möller, CEO & Co-Founder of Pionix GmbH, added: “The close cooperation with Amperfied shows how industrial-grade availability requirements and innovative software development mutually amplify each other. The high demands on the charging infrastructure have helped us to continuously develop BaseCamp – exactly the kind of partnership that drives the EVerest ecosystem forward.”
Both companies are also planning a joint appearance at Hubject’s Intercharge Network Conference (ICNC) in Berlin. The presentation, entitled ‘Future Proof DC Charging with Outstanding Interoperability and Reliability’, will take place on 3 September.
