SWTCH and FLO launch charging roaming agreement in North America
In practice, it means either the SWTCH or the FLO app can be used to access either charging network across Canada or the USA – without the need for additional payment methods. It means FLO users will have access to over 110,000 public charge points in total, while SWTCH users can access over 70,000. The agreement also covers visibility for trip planning. The companies say that access will be based on existing protocols to enable cross-network operation without the need for additional hardware or software.
Both companies offer a range of hardware covering both home and public charging. SWTCH supports DC fast charging from 50 kW to 350kw+, while the FLO Ultra charger offers dual ports with a total of 320 kW. The brands also offer Level 2 AC charging – many of SWTCH’s Level 2 chargers provide 6.6 kW of power while FLO CoRe + and CoRe+ MAX models go up to 19.2kW. The roaming agreement itself is, of course, focused on public charging rather than home AC hardware.
Louis Tremblay, President and CEO of FLO commented: “Through our roaming agreements, FLO members can access more than 110,000 public chargers today. Working with SWTCH strengthens that network even further, giving drivers the confidence that charging will be seamless wherever their road takes them.” Carter Li, CEO of SWTCH, added: “Through breaking down network silos, SWTCH users now have access to more than 70,000 chargers across North America.”
