Tim Hortons to install fast chargers at 100 restaurants across Canada

The Canadian coffee chain Tim Hortons has just agreed a partnership with FLO, a Quebec-based charging network operator, to roll out EV fast chargers at 100 of its Canadian locations by the end of 2028.

The plan aims to make Tim Hortons the largest restaurant chain in Canada to offer public fast charging, with the rollout targeting coast-to-coast coverage in all ten Canadian provinces. Each participating restaurant is expected to host two FLO Ultra fast chargers, which feature two charging ports per unit. These two ports share up to 320kW of power, meaning 160kW if both are being used at the same time. So, at max capacity, each Tim Hortons will host four 160kW charging ports under the plan. FLO itself states that its Ultra chargers can supply up to 120km of EV range in around 10 minutes of charging depending on vehicle and station configuration, although it’s not clear whether this covers single or dual use of a charging tower.

Back to Tim Hortons: the coffee chain states that its first charging site is already live in Regina, Saskatchewan, and features the aforementioned FLO Ultra chargers. Work is reportedly underway on chargers at a further 13 Tim Hortons branches with completion scheduled for the end of this year, and up to 50 by the end of 2026. The new installations have partially been financed through FLO’s partnership with the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB), which provided FLO with a $220m CAD loan in 2023 to support the roll out of 1900 public fast charging ports across Canada.

Louis Tremblay, President and CEO of FLO, commented:”By installing FLO Ultra chargers at trusted, well-visited locations, we’re not only building the reliable infrastructure EV drivers need but also empowering Canadians to confidently accelerate their transition to electric mobility.”

Hope Bagozzi, Chief Marketing Officer for Tim Hortons, added: “Our planned rollout will make Tims the largest restaurant provider of EV fast charging in Canada and we are targeting installations in all 10 provinces to provide coast-to-coast coverage for our guests.”
