Subaru confirms US pricing and specs for 2026 Solterra EV

Subaru of America has just revealed pricing and technical details for the 2026 Solterra, its updated electric SUV set to arrive in US showrooms later this year. Despite inflation and supply chain pressures, plus a whole host of performance upgrades, the new model retains impressively competitive pricing.

The 2026 Solterra is set to be offered in multiple trims including a new XT variant with dual electric motors. Subaru is retaining the 74.7kWh LFP battery pack found in the 2025 model, albeit with enhancements in terms of thermal management. There’s also a new battery preconditioning system intended to boost charging performance in both hot and cold weather.

Then there’s range: Subaru has claimed the new Solterra features a range gain of about 25 per cent over the outgoing model, achieved via improved cell chemistry and efficiency gains across the powertrain. Fast-charging capabilities have also been improved. While earlier versions reached 80% capacity in around 50 minutes using a 100 kW charger, Subaru suggests the 2026 model will deliver faster rates under ideal conditions.

Pricing wise, the base price of the new Solterra remains steady. The starting price for the 2025 Solterra was $38,495 USD, and this year, it’s exactly the same – undercutting many Tesla Model Y versions despite being assembled in Japan and subject to higher tariffs. This is all amid the addition of an updated AWD system, enhanced suspension and power steering, plus tweaks to the exterior: a new front bumper, redesigned wheels, new rear badge and spoiler.

With the higher-end trims, it becomes clear just how much Subaru is really pushing to remain competitive, given that the EV Limited trim starts at $41,395, i.e. $600 less than the 2025 edition, and features a number of quality of life improvements like automatic parking assist, heated steering wheel and rear suits, plus additional power outlets and upgraded speakers.

The Solterra Limited XT trim meanwhile clocks in at $42,895 MSRP, with beefed-up front and rear motors. Finally, the premium EV Touring XT trim starts at $45,555 MSRP, featuring a panoramic glass roof, a number of styling variants, and additional paint options.
