MFG rolls out 580 fast charging bays at Morrisons sites
According to MFG, it means Morrisons now has more fast charging bays than any other food retailer, with charging facilities available at 300 supermarkets. Notably, the roll-out of these rapid chargers took place over five months. There’s no word on charger specs; MFG simply states that its ‘rapid’ EV Power chargers can “typically bring an EV back up to full charge in 45 minutes”, or around the length of time it takes for someone to do a full weekly grocery shop. Zapmap reports that the average price for an MFG EV Power charging session comes in at £0.79/kWh, with payment options including the MFG app, contactless, or partner apps – although they have not confirmed this for the Morrisons chargers.
In a statement, MFG said that the Morrisons roll-out has taken place in parallel to its EV Power Ultra Rapid Charging Hubs project. These feature chargers rated between 300 and 400 kW. “MFG EV Power will have 1900 bays in operation by Q4 2025, making it the largest rapid / ultra rapid charging network in the UK… MFG will have over 100 Ultra Rapid hubs on the Morrisons network alone by 2030, in addition to a further 400 hubs across the 1218 service stations.”
William Bannister, CEO of MFG, added: “Completing this rollout of rapid charging bays across the Morrisons network in just five months is a testament to our team’s expertise and commitment. We are delivering on our promise to provide the infrastructure communities need to embrace electric vehicles, while continuing to invest in a best-in-class experience for all our customers.”
Earlier this year, MFG also announced plans to expand its ultra-rapid charging network in London. It said it plans to boost its network by 30 per cent this year with the deployment of new ultra-rapid hubs alongside the expansion of existing ones. Martin Symes, Director of EV at MFG, said: “By expanding existing sites and bringing new hubs online, we are ensuring EV drivers have access to the ultra-rapid facilities they need, helping to make EV ownership more convenient and accessible.”
