Leapmotor unveiled its upcoming compact EV, the B05, at the IAA Mobility show in Munich in September. However, the manufacturer withheld technical data, pricing, and even interior images during the presentation. Now, the Chinese company has opened pre-sales for the new rival to the VW ID.3 and Kia EV4 on its domestic market, revealing significantly more information about the model.

In China, the car will be sold under the name Lafa 5 and will start at 105,800 yuan, the equivalent of around €12,800. Five versions will be offered in total, with prices ranging up to 131,800 yuan, or roughly €16,000.

Customers placing a deposit of 99 yuan (around €12) will receive various benefits worth a combined 12,500 yuan (around €1,500). The official market launch is scheduled for 28 November, with deliveries set to begin immediately afterwards. Leapmotor also plans to enter international markets from next year.

Depending on the version, the 4.43-metre-long hatchback is equipped with a battery offering 56.2 or 67.1 kWh of capacity. The maximum CLTC range is between 515 and 605 kilometres. Although the company has not yet disclosed peak charging power, it says the battery can be charged from 30 to 80 per cent in 18 minutes.

A rear-mounted electric motor produces either 132 kW (180 PS) or 160 kW (218 PS), depending on the configuration. Top speed varies between 160 and 170 kph. The higher-end versions are designed to stand out in the segment with their advanced driver assistance systems. They feature a roof-mounted LiDAR unit and a Qualcomm 8650 chip capable of delivering 200 TOPS of processing power.

By mid-2026, Leapmotor, which partners with Stellantis for its European operations, plans to introduce the sportier B05 Ultra variant. This version will feature a distinctive body kit, a larger rear spoiler, and an exclusive matte paint finish.
