Toyota launches Urban Cruiser, assembles bZ4X in Indonesia
The Urban Cruiser is a niche model in Indonesia, and accordingly, Toyota offers it in only one configuration, priced at 759 million rupiah (approximately 39,500 euros). The company imports it from Maruti Suzuki, which manufactures it alongside Suzuki’s e Vitara at the Hansalpur (Gujarat) factory in India.
Toyota offers the Urban Cruiser in three variants in Europe, and in Indonesia, it is importing the middle one, emphasising range. This configuration has a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the front axle, producing 128 kW and 192.5 Nm of torque. An LFP battery pack with an energy storage capacity of 59.8 kWh (net)/61.1-kWh (gross) powers this motor. It supports charging at up to 67 kW DC and takes at least 45 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% SoC. On a full charge, it delivers a range of 426.7 kilometres (WLTP-equivalent).
The Japanese automaker equips the Urban Cruiser with features like a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a wireless smartphone charger, and a sunroof. On the safety front, it bundles Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Prevention, and seven airbags.
Locally assembled bZ4X targets longer range
Toyota has launched the new bZ4X in a single configuration, priced at 799 million rupiah (approximately 41,500 euros). It used to import the old model as a CBU, but for the new one, it imports knocked-down kits and assembles them locally in Karawang (West Java). According to a report from Bisnis Indonesia, it sources 40% of the parts locally.
The company sells the new bZ4X in three variants in Europe, and it has brought the most range-focused, middle configuration to Indonesia. It uses a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor that generates 165 kW and 268 Nm of torque and an NMC battery pack with an energy storage capacity of 69 kWh (net)/73.1-kWh (gross). With a peak input of up to 150 kW, the battery pack charges from 10% to 80% in as little as 30 minutes and, with full capacity, delivers a range of 525 kilometres.
Toyota offers the new bZ4X with features like 20-inch alloy wheels, a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a dual wireless smartphone charger, and a panoramic sunroof. On the safety front, the company equips the EV with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Lane Tracing Assist, Adaptive High-Beam, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Safe Exit Assist, Parking Support Brake, Advanced Parking, and eight airbags.
