UK: Duracell E-Charge opens first ultra-rapid charging site

Duracell E-Charge has commissioned its first public charging hub in Cheltenham. Located at Bath Terrace Car Park, the site offers 300 kW ultra-rapid charging powered by renewable energy, with free parking while charging and a focus on high uptime.

According to the company, ‘the first Duracell E-Charge site is now live at Bath Terrace Car Park in Cheltenham,’ placing high-power charging infrastructure ‘in the heart of the town.’ The site is designed to provide ‘ultra-fast, reliable charging right where drivers need it,’ with a focus on accessibility and ease of use.

The charging hub is located at Bath Terrace Car Park, Cheltenham, GL50 2BA, and is already listed on Google Maps. With this first site now live, Duracell E-Charge has taken its initial step into the UK’s expanding public fast-charging market, focusing on ultra-rapid performance and centrally located infrastructure.

The installation comprises five ultra-rapid chargers, each delivering up to 300 kW, serving a total of ten charging bays. The company says the site is built to ‘target 99%+ uptime’ and to be ‘designed for the needs of both drivers and partners.’ Drivers benefit from free parking for up to one hour while charging, and public toilets are available on site.

Duracell announced in October that it would launch an EV charging network in the UK. The company plans to invest £200 million in the coming decade, and the first six sites were supposed to go live this year. While that seems to be impossible, given the date of the inauguration of the first site, Duracell has promised a major expansion over the course of next year.

"powered by renewable energy" how do they guarantee that? Do they have their own production that covers it? NESO currently shows the area as low impact so it is still consuming some non-green production.

I live near here and this seems n illogical place to have ultra fast charging. It is not near a major trunk road but in town. Surely more 50kw chargers would make sense at the site so you could charge whilst doing your shopping in about an hour. This would have made more sense if was at the transport hub on the western edge of town and could be accessed easily from the M5 and on the A40.

50kw chargers are no use to anyone, you would have to be there 7 hours plus to charge

Until 1 month ago, this was an Elektra branded site. Just repainted? Not impressed.

That's good for people who live in Cheltenham, just need every petrol station in the UK to have a similar service.
