New Fastned rapid chargers for UK’s North East
The two new hubs opened earlier this month, bringing additional HPC capacity to the are. The Newcastle charging hub is located by Callerton Parkway Metro station – one stop from Newcastle Airport – and features 12 charging bays under a full charging canopy. The other new site is on North Moor Road in Sunderland. With only six charging bays at launch, it’s smaller than the Callerton site, but features several amenities including a Costa Coffee and a Greggs.
Tom Hurst, UK and Ireland Country Director at Fastned, said: “Our first airport location at Newcastle Airport is an exciting milestone. As people make the classic ‘Driving Home for Christmas’ journey this festive season, our new ultra-rapid charging hub forms part of our growing network across the North East, supporting hundreds of thousands of charging sessions and helping people travel sustainably across the region.”
Dean Ward, Director of Commercial at Newcastle Airport, added: “The new hub is our latest investment to make charging electric vehicles faster and more reliable for everyone. Just a short drive from the terminal, it’s perfectly placed for passengers travelling to and from the Airport, for those dropping off or picking up friends and family and for members of the local community.”
The opening of the new sites means Fastned now has 13 charging hubs total across the North East, which is also the home of what was the UK’s first ultra-rapid charging hub – the Fastned site at West Wear Street in Sunderland.
