Zest to deliver 200+ charging points in Lewisham

Lewisham Council has partnered with the charge point operator Zest. The two will work on expanding new EV charging infrastructure across the London borough.

The focus of the collaboration is on street charging. Like in other areas of London, many people in Lewisham do not have access to off-street parking and so are unable to benefit from home EV chargers. This is something the local council seems keen to tackle, which is why it has brought in Zest.

The goal is to introduce a minimum of 200 charging points across the borough, designated specifically for households with on-street parking. Zest will put in an initial investment of £1.5 million and will install, operate, and maintain the new charging network over the next 15 years. The first fourteen charging bays have already been completed under the agreement – with the first charge point going live on Childers Street back in December 2025.

The council states this project will come at no cost to the local authority or taxpayers, and that the initiative is being supported by the UK government’s On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS).

Robin Heap, CEO of Zest, said: “Lewisham is demonstrating real ambition in its plan for a low-carbon transport system. By prioritising reliable on-street charging, the Council is making it easier for households without private parking to participate in the transition to electric vehicles. Our role is to support that long-term vision with infrastructure that residents can rely on today and for years to come.”

Lewisham currently operates a network of around 100 EV charge points across the borough, ranging from 5kW – 7kW street chargers to 50kW rapid chargers in council car parks and on TfL ‘red routes’.
