Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) has commenced local assembly of Geely’s EX2, which was originally introduced as the Xingyuan in China. The move marks the start of the model’s overseas production.

HIM assembles the Geely EX2 at a factory in Purwakarta, West Java, with locally sourced components and processes accounting for 46.5 per cent of the vehicle’s value. This localisation level (TKDN) surpasses the government’s 40 per cent threshold, qualifying the EV for a preferential VAT rate of 1 per cent, compared with the standard 12 per cent.

“We are targeting a domestic component level of 60 per cent for models that have been launched and are the first Chinese car brand in Indonesia (with that target),” said Constantinus Herlijoso, Sales & Channel Development Director at Geely Auto Indonesia. HIM began assembling Geely models with the EX5 electric SUV in May 2025, followed by the Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid SUV in September. It is one of Indonesia’s largest contract manufacturers and assembles vehicles for several Chinese brands besides Geely, including BAIC, Chery, Jaecoo, Jetour, Neta and Xpeng.

Geely launched the EX2 in Indonesia on Tuesday and offers it in Pro and Max variants, priced at IDR 255 million (approximately 12,900 euros) and IDR 285 million (around 14,400 euros), respectively. The company will offer a discount of IDR 25.1 million (approximately 1,250 euros) on both variants to the first 2,000 customers who purchase the model by 15 February as part of its launch campaign.

The EX2 measures 4.14 m in length, 1.8 m in width and 1.58 m in height, with a 2.65 m wheelbase. It offers 16 cm of ground clearance in the Pro variant and 16.2 cm in the Max variant. Both variants feature a rear-mounted electric motor producing 85 kW and 150 Nm of torque, paired with a 40.8 kWh LFP battery pack that can be charged at up to 70 kW. The EX2 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.5 seconds, has a top speed of 130 km/h, and delivers a range of 395 kilometres (NEDC) on a single charge.

Geely launched the EX2 as the Xingyuan in China in October 2024 and has seen strong market demand for the model. According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), it was China’s best-selling new energy vehicle last year, with 465,775 units delivered. Announcing its 2025 results earlier this month, Geely stated that cumulative sales have exceeded 530,000 units.
