Thailand: Sharge to establish nationwide charging network for Grab

Thai EV charging service provider Sharge has partnered with Grab to build a dedicated charging network for the company. It plans to invest over 400 million baht (around 10.7 million euros) in the project.

Sharge will initially set up three charging stations under a pilot programme, one each at Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok, and one in Pattaya (Chonburi Province). More than 60 per cent of Grab drivers in these areas have already adopted EVs.

By 2027, Sharge plans to build a total of 40 charging stations across major economic and tourist cities in Thailand, exclusively for Grab drivers. Grab says this initiative with Sharge should reduce operational costs for drivers and increase EV adoption.

Each Grab-exclusive Sharge charging station will feature 12 chargers and be capable of handling up to 700 charging sessions per day. Drivers will be able to fully charge their EVs in as little as 20 minutes. The cost of charging will start at 6 baht per kilowatt-hour (around 0.16 euros per kilowatt-hour), compared to the standard rate of 6.4 to 7.6 baht (0.17 to 0.20 euros) per kWh.

“Our collaboration with Sharge addresses drivers’ challenges around charging accessibility and encourages more drivers to confidently transition to EVs,” said Parichat Sriwilai, Deputy Director of Driver Management at Grab Thailand. “The expanded charging network will reduce charging time and enable drivers to operate more efficiently and sustainably,” he added.

Grab operates more than 10,000 EVs in Thailand. The company plans to expand this fleet as part of a new agreement with Chinese automaker GAC to deploy 20,000 EVs across Southeast Asia.

On the user side, Grab is promoting EV use with a ‘Grab EV Rides’ preference feature in its app. Activating this option prioritises booking an EV without a surcharge. In 2025, the company saw a 58 per cent increase in the use of this feature.
