Hydrogen fuel cell rail project takes off in Europe

The EU project FCH2RAIL (Fuel Cell Hybrid Power Pack for Rail Applications) with partners from Belgium, Germany, Spain and Portugal is developing and testing a new zero-emission train prototype. Key to the idea is a combination of electricity from overhead wires with a fuel cell power pack.

UPS Flight Forward to purchase 10 electric VTOLs

UPS subsidiary Flight Forward announces it will procure ten vertical take-off and landing, electric airlifters from US manufacturer Beta Technologies. The agreement also includes an option to procure 150 additional eVTOLs.

China shows strong EV sales growth over Q1 2021

The first EV manufacturers from China published their sales figures for March and for the first quarter of the year. Unsurprisingly, the statistics from BYD, Nio and Xpeng show a strong increase in sales compared to the start of 2020, which was overshadowed by the beginning of the pandemic.

Mercedes-Benz Cars sold 59,000 electrified cars in Q1 2021

Daimler subsidiary Mercedes-Benz Cars sold around 59,000 electrified cars worldwide in Q1/2021, including more than 16,000 fully electric passenger cars. This corresponded to a share of around ten per cent of total sales; in Europe, the share of electric cars and plug-in hybrids in sales even exceeded 25 per cent.

First Bus order 125 electric buses from BYD-ADL

UK electric bus partners BYD and ADL have received another major order from Scotland. The operator First Bus has ordered 126 electric buses for use in Glasgow. These are 91 double-decker and 35 single-deck buses, which are to operate in Glasgow from March 2023.

BMW to source lithium from Livent

Starting next year, the BMW Group will be purchasing lithium from a second supplier, the US company Livent. The volume of the multi-year contract is around 285 million euros. Livent will supply the lithium directly to the BMW Group’s battery cell manufacturers.
