Battery Recycling in the EU: Nine Billion Euros Needed by 2035

Summary

Setting up battery recycling in the EU will require investments of around nine billion euros by 2035, according to a new study by RWTH Aachen University and management consultants PwC, but is likely to become a profitable and sustainable business even before 2035. Recycled material could account for up to 30 per cent of the demand for lithium, nickel and cobalt in battery cell production in 2035 and double this share already by 2040.
